Then she visits Phyang village in Leh (chapter two), where she takes us to the Phyang Monastery and helps us to visualize a beautiful giant thangka and the masked dance of Leh – an intangible cultural heritage asset. In chapter three the author takes us to the Nubra Valley, where the Maitreya Buddha statue and Diskit Monastery are located. The statue is a towering 32-metre statue that faces the Shyok River flowing towards Pakistan, whereas Diskit Monastery is the largest and oldest surviving monastery of Nubra Valley, established in 14th Century CE. Chapter four describes Pangong Tso, where the author takes us to the Hemis Monastery - the wealthiest monastery in India, Chang La - the third highest motor-able pass in the world, and Pangong Lake - a salt-water lake at an altitude of 13,900 feet. The last chapter describes Tso Moriri, where the author gives us glimpses of Moriri Lake, which is the largest high-altitude lake in the trans-Himalayan region. She also takes us to the 400-year old Korkoz Monastery that has a wonderful collection of masks and Buddhist statues.
In the book, Sohini discovers many of the monasteries and gumphas, which are located in Tibetan high-altitude desserts. The presence of these monasteries makes the place livable and spiritually enjoyable. The young lamas, shown in the book, are very adorable and lively. They bring happiness to the mind and soul of residents and fellow travelers, as viewed by the author of this book.
